Easy Like Sunday Morning

Do I have anything of real substance to post today? Nah, not really. I just looked at my little calendar and was surprised that I had 3 days this week in which I didn’t post. I guess that’s not a huge number of non-posts but still, for me it seems like a lot. Thing is I’ve pretty much been studying for Dutch exams or becoming completely hysterical over not knowing enough Dutch for several days now and I don’t think you guys really need to hear the same old song over and over again (unless it’s like, Boy George or something…really, Karma Chameleon never gets old).

CB and I went shopping yesterday (no, not for me, for once) and he got some new pants (he’s down a size…see and everyone thought I was being a merciless bitch when I scolded him for over snacking). We also went to his sister’s house for dinner, which was very nice. Plus I found out I can communicate with 19 month old children, woohoo. When I say communicate, I do mean on the child’s level, not like interacting in a way that will educate. I can put together coherent full sentences in Dutch (even sometimes in the past tense now!) but not accurately enough that I feel capable of constructively communicating with young children. Plus I’m sure my accent makes me hard to understand, even to adults. It’s amazing how hard it is sometimes to “sound right” to native speakers. But anyway, CB’s sister made a nice dinner (endive rolled in ham with a cream sauce and cheese…no, it’s not the healthiest meal but it actually tastes good, unlike most dishes with endive) and we watched his niece run around and be a little kid which is usually pretty cute. When we went to leave she let me kiss her goodbye, which was very sweet considering she’s only seen me maybe 3 times in her life. She tried to give CB a peck too but his beard scared her away. She did snuggle her face up to his hand though, so I think she sincerely wanted to kiss him, she just really doesn’t like his beard. But that’s okay, cause I like it a lot :) .

So here I sit, a day of studying and perhaps some movie watching ahead of me. I’ll be skyping my dad this evening, which I look forward to every week. Mom’s in California so I’ll talk to her next week I guess. I have a midterm on Wednesday which means I will be freaking out on Tuesday and otherwise, life goes on as usual.

CB and I are going to Pittsburgh on March 25th for a week so he can meet the rest of my family and so that we can finally retrieve Rex and bring him home with us. It’s getting close enough that I’m starting to countdown the days, which can alternately get me really excited or majorly make the time creep so I’ll be trying to focus on Dutch more than a trip to Pittsburgh/to see my family/to see my kids at CHCC.

Oh, and since it never gets old:
