Evergreen

As you may or may not know, today is Earth Day, a day to teach awareness and actively participate in endeavours that help to save the planet Earth and the life upon it. Why we need a special day to do this when we should all be making these things codes to live by in general, I don’t know, but people seem to get off on designating different days for different causes. Anyway, many of my friends in the blogging community have been blogging about what they want to do, plan to do, or advise their readers to do to become more Earth friendly individuals. I have blogged for causes similar to this in the past and I know I have become a much greener person since moving to Western Europe. Here are ways that we are a bit more friendly towards the environment in Cabanaland:

  1. We compost
  2. We use rechargeable batteries
  3. We use energy efficient lightbulbs and/or daylight
  4. We recycle pretty much everything (we need to get better with paper)
  5. We bike, walk or use public transportation 99% of the time
  6. We get a weekly organic, domestically grown produce package

I’ve gone on a garbage walk for Lotus’ Project Support Beauty in Nature and I’ve been trying to decide on some other ways to make our lives a little greener. When I was in Pittsburgh I purchased a DivaCup. Now, rather than add a metric ton of used feminine products to the landfill once a month I can dispose of it directly down the drain. No more abrasive, irritating fibers or deadly dioxins for these bits! I’ve got 4 more days in this pack of pills and then it’ll be time to try out my enviromentally friendly menstrual products for the very first time! Joy! If I don’t make a total fool of myself I might even write up a nice little review of the product for you. If you’re looking for other sugestions for making you or your family or your coworkers or anyone really, more Earth friendly I recomend checking out Cablegirl’s archives. She has a ton of useful and easy advice on ways we can make this planet last a while longer. And if you’re interested in some ways to share this information with your children, check Raffi out. He has more than one album dedicated to conservation for children.
