Music Monday – It’s Oh So Quiet

musicmonday.jpg

Why did I pick this song? Well, in all honesty it just popped into my head while I was sitting here trying to think of what to post for Monday. Do I like Björk? Not all the time, although I do like this song and some of her originals as well. Do I like the video? Eh, it’s not the greatest but it’s ok. I’m not even that fond of her name cause I had to try to remember how to do oomlauts on the keyboard to type it. I guess I mostly like it because I remember watching a figure skating routine to this cover by Kristi Yamaguchi who was my all time favorite female figureskater. I started watching figure skating with my grandma when I was little. It was the only type of sport she would really bother to watch on television and I watched it to spend some time with her. Plus I liked the costumes and music (for the record, I enjoy ballet too). The routines I remember the most are Kurt Browning skating to Brick House and Kristie Yamaguchi skating to It’s Oh So Quiet.

It’s Oh So Quietcovered by Björk

it’s. oh. so quiet
it’a oh. so still
you’re all alone
and so peaceful until…

you fall in love
zing boom
the sky up above
zing boom
is caving in
wow bam
you’ve never been so nuts about a guy
you wanna laugh you wanna cry
you cross your heart and hope to die

’til it’s over and then
it’s nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what’s the use
wow bam
of falling in love

it’s. oh. so quiet
it’s. oh. so still
you’re all alone
and so peaceful until…

you ring the bell
bim bam
you shout and you yell
hi ho ho
you broke the spell
gee. this is swell you almost have a fit
this guy is “gorge” and i got hit
there’s no mistake this is it

’til it’s over and then
it’s nice and quiet
but soon again
starts another big riot

you blow a fuse
zing boom
the devil cuts loose
zing boom
so what’s the use
wow bam
of falling in love

the sky caves in
the devil cuts loose
you blow blow blow blow blow your fuse
when you’ve fallen in love

ssshhhhhh…

I like this song as well. I don’t want to see Bjork, however, on Dancing With the Stars (I can’t do that oomlaut thing).

I’m just glad she’s not wearing a dead swan. ;-)

I don’t like much björk songs but this one is great with its contrasts and musical explosions

I remember that skating routine! Hahaha. Too funny. I confess that I have a little list of Bjork stuff on my iTunes… and I listen to it. Yes, I do. I like her (some of the time– like you said).

I loved Byork’s first album with ‘Venus as a boy’ on it, but she is a little mad. I did like this song though, it’s just kind of happy.

I, too, remember this from the Yamaguchi skating thing…and Kurt Browning groovin’ to ‘Brick House’. Wow! It’s the first time I heard Bjork singing and this song. I’m not a Bjork enthusiast, but this is quite charming.

I recall reading that she’d declared she would never do a cover. Hmmm me thinks she spoke a wee bit too soon.
