Haiku Friday – Made of Fail

Sorry people who metriculated here via A Mommy Story, but you’ll either have to read my ramble or scroll down for the haiku goodness today.

So, I decided on Sunday not to blog until I felt I had something positive to say.

*ahem*

Since that doesn’t seem to be happening, I decided I better blog anyway, just so y’all don’t think I shuffled loose from this mortal coil or anything. But as you may have guessed from my title, nothing seems to be going right here in Cabanaland.
The washing mashine broke a few weeks ago, which was a pain and the repairman could only come this past Wednesday. At one point I trued washing some t-shirts by hand and line drying them but there was a bad storm that night while we slept and my cleanish shirts were blown into the dirt. We lugged stuff to various laundromats after that.

Two weeks ago CB ordered laminate for the bathroom floor. They told us it would be in the following Friday (the 15th of this month) but when CB called yesterday we were told that the brand we ordered was very popular and the manufacturer is on back order until mid-November. So now we’re looking at viable options for an affordable, quality bathroom floor that can be obtained before my brother is staying with us for ten days in November (sorry Scooter, the remodeling gods have delivered their wrath upon us).

I have yet to hear back from the company in Antwerp I interviewed with last week so I plan on calling as soon as this is posted to see if there was a fluke or I actually didn’t get a job that I was totally qualified for.

On Wednesday CB got a call from his mother to tell him his grandmother (92 years old) had passed away in her sleep the night before. The funeral is next week, but on the bright side at least I can wash our clothes so that we look presentable for the service (almost 300€ later…I should’ve been a repairman).

And my cooking lately? Total shit.
On Wednesday I made breaded turkey breasts but I didn’t use oil over the breading so it was soggy and despite my obsessive trimming, the first thing I bit into was gristley. I’m really close to going vegetarian with the exception of fish. Though last night I screwed that up too. I was using the last of our frozen salmon and shrimp [aside: Have you ever peeled shrimp? Big, raw shrimp with lots of slimy legs and slippery shells that you have to tear off? Am I the only one who can imagine those pissed off, naked, purple shrimp silently vowing revenge? I'm a believer in karma and I already feel doomed to die in a seething pit of black widows due to my insistance that CB kills the spiders that get to close to the toilet and shower. Now I'm worried about vengeful shrimp attacking me while I sleep]for supper and I not only managed to not cook the pasta all the way through, but I also scorched the lemon caper sauce I was making to toss the seafood in. Oh and CB? He doesn’t like capers with anything but steamed or poached salmon apparently. So that was two meals and a lot of food wasted.

The bright light at the end of this mountainous tunnel of shit was the party we were invited to this evening. Two of CB’s friends are turning 30 and having a birthday thing on a boat in one of the canals. We’re meeting a group of his friends for dinner beforehand and then going to the boat. That sounds fun, right? Yeah, I thought so too, despite the fact that we’re probably going to the viewing for CB’s grandmother first.

So we woke up this morning and we were cuddling when Luna jumped into bed with us and sat between our heads. CB moved the blanket and Luna jumped to the side and collided with my face. I felt a sting and my eye teared up. At first I thought she’s scratched my eye because I felt tears trickling down my cheek but they weren’t tears. It was blood. From this:

Yeah, so now I get to meet a bunch of mourning relatives who’re gonna be all “look at that crazy immigrant’s face” or actually probably more like “kijk naar het gezicht van dit gek buitenlander.”

I hereby declare
This whole week a disaster,
Thereby, made of fail

    Hé Gekke buitenlander!!
Some days / weeks are never meant to be, but they get at you anyway!!
I loved the part about the spiders and the shrimp!! You have too much imagination girl!!
Oh but I’m glad I didn’t kill the one I met yesterday though, I bet he could kill me with one slap of his paw … in his next life I mean!!

Seriously, I have had weeks like this! Last week as a matter of fact.

    Hang in there!

Blah, pooo, yuck. Sorry it’s been so crappy. Your venting about it all was terrific and the haiku ending was perfection!
I hope it gets better, and fast!!

    Here’s to next week!

Oh sweetie, you will still look beautiful in a scratched up kind of way. So sorry about CB’s Gran. We’ve had 3 deaths in the family in the space of four days this week so I’ve been kind of in a thoughtful mood this week that makes writing hard.

I loved the prawns and spiders bit, I hate them too, shiver.

Hope you feel better soon Lilacs, and you’re writing is still fabulous so though your week was made of fail, this post is made of chocolate bunnies and win. x

Awe, Lilac, what a total bummer! I hope the party is lovely tonight.

And if it’s not… that’s why there’s always next week.

I’ve had a similar week so I can both empathize and sympathize.

Here’s too a much better next seven days!

    Fab haiku.

Awe, you don’t deserve that kind of week. That shouldn’t happen to people like you.

However, it did lead to a great post (misery loves company, right?) and a rad haiku.

Ugh, sorry to hear about your week! Mine has been special, too, and not in such great ways. Thankfully the weekend has arrived, and that plus a good latte should solve some of my issues. Hope next week is better!

Fail, as if it is a noun??? I have to look that up! Uh, huh…so I am really starting to have some issues with dementia since I wasn’t swift enough to get the point…lousy week = fail…I really think I need to leave America…it’s not good for my mental health….there are many tomorrows coming….hope they are much better ones! Perfect Haiku!

I went ahead and read the rant anyway before the haiku, which was good because then it gave the ‘ku more meaning!

I hope the next week is much improved.
