Nothing to See Here

WordPress is being a turd nugget again so I’m not going to delve into the moist little crevices of my inner ponderings for this post. I’m simply going to answer the question of the moment.
Did I pass level 5?
Am I free and clear to start grad school at the end of next month?
Have I successfully completed the UTC Preparatory Year of Dutch?

Nope.
Sorry for all of you out there who had faith in me to complete things without a mulligan, but I think we’ve already covered the current state of things here for me.
If something can go wrong, it will.
And it did.
And I’m oddly calm about it.

Dissapointed? I guess, a bit. But there were 40 people enrolled in level 5 for the month of August and of those 40, 9 passed. Yeah, you heard me right. If less that 25 percent of a group of people are able to successfully complete the hardest level of Dutch on the first try, I’m not going to beat myself up over it if I’m not one of them. I do tend to think there’s an inherent flaw in the system to have such a dismal success rate with a group that has already been gleaned of the proverbial chaff, but what do I know. So I’ve been re-enrolled in level 5 again. I still have class from 9-12 and my job in Antwerp will start on september 3rd. It means I won’t be home very much for 4 days of the week and when I am home I’ll have to put studying first.
Usually when I warn you that I won’t have time to blog though, I end up blogging more frequently, so this time I’ll just let the blog chips fall where they may.

That sucks that you didn’t pass…and that you will have to study instead of blog. But you gotta do what you gotta do.

Tests really intimidate me. And bore me. About half way through I always gave up and just started making up answers…So I have no good test advise.

I’m sorry…but glad you are not beating yourself up. Looks like you’ll have plenty of company in Level 5..hopefully it’s people you like.

There does appear to be a problem with the system when so many cannot pass.

Oh well, sorry to hear it didn’t work this time. Better luck this go around.

Sorry to hear that but I’m glad you are looking at it smart.. that ‘no pass’ ratio is very high.

Sounds like you’re right on track with the majority of students.

    Best of luck.

    I’m sorry about level five.

Better to let blog chips fall than cow chips. ;-)

that totally sucks. i want to know what *favors* those 9 students did, and why weren’t you willing to do same?!

Wow, that’s an alarming turnover rate…….9 out of 40! Yowza

I couldn’t pass Spanish 2 in american HIGH school, so I’m just in awe your learning Dutch and at level 5. I’m sure you’ll be busy, but it’ll go fine. btw I had blogspot spelled incorrectly, that’s why the link didn’t work. Should be fine now.

I’m so sorry you didn’t pass, but I’m glad you’re keeping your chin up.

Keep working… you’ll do better next time. :-)

Well I am sure that you will get it next time. That is a poor ratio. How is your eye doing?

  13. August 29th, 2008 at 04:25 | #13

I can’t get over how few pass the test, so you really can’t feel too badly about it, considering. Good luck next time around!

  14. August 29th, 2008 at 05:09 | #14

Wow, I’m sorry to hear you didn’t pass, but the pass rate doesn’t make it sound easy at all. How long did you study Dutch in order to get to level 5?

  15. August 29th, 2008 at 06:51 | #15

So many who did not pass!!!!
Well girl, don’t be sad! Most of your friends will be with you again this year!
    Big hug!

I’m sorry Korie, Dutch is not an easy language, apparently! Volgende keer lukt het je zeker!

  17. August 29th, 2008 at 21:19 | #17

It is sucky but you’ll do it. And at least your mates will be with you. Let the chis fall indeed. I love chips. :D

    Oy, that bites. :(

Can you make an enquiry about it? That’s way too many failing, I think.

P.S.? Turd nugget? Hahaha love it.
