Comment Karma

I have been trying really hard not to mention this for the past week and a half or so, but….

*deep breath*

Where did 80% of my comments go??
I’m not tech savvy! I don’t even know how to check my traffic! I was wigging out thinking everyone left me when I got less than 10 comments on a post giving explicit details about sex and penises (although I did get some strangers that ventured here to read about it…makes me want to occasionally throw controversial phrases like “I club baby seals” into my posts just to see who wanders by). Fortunately CB knows the site I use for traffic and he showed me my little bar graph and everything looked about the same as it usually does. So I know you’re out there, you’re just being so quiet lately. I’m not sure why it bugs me, the lack of comments. I mean, does it really matter if you comment as long as you care enough to read?

I guess not.

But still! I find myself avoiding looking at other bloggers’ comment sections lately cause it chaps my ass when someone can get 237 comments on a post that basically says something like CAN NOT BLOG, I HAZ CUTE BABY TO NOM! and then a close up of their infant. I mean, I realize I don’t always post the most gripping content either, but come on.

So today while I was pondering this phenomenon and reading all the blogs I subscribe to via Google Reader, it hit me.

I wasn’t commenting either.

Damn.

Karma goes a long way guys and my comment karma has come full circle apparently.
Therefore, today, and anytime I am able, I plan on clicking through to your real, beautiful, colorful blogs and leaving a comment.

Hopefully it’ll pay off. And if not then maybe it’ll at least make you all happy.

For me it’s just been this darned RA… I have NO energy. It sucks. I haven’t been getting on any of my fave blogs. I’m trying again today. ;-)

    Hi lilacspecs,

you get waaaay more comments than I do, so I am usually jealous at you. Lately I am relieved to have a comment on each post (phew at least someone read it). But yes, mine went down too. I seem to get more google traffic but less regular returning readers :( . Some very regular readers seem to have decreased their internet time drastically and others like you are stuck in the feed reader. Boohoo, no fun for someone who does put an effort in leaving comments elsewhere as a means of appreciation.

I was about to write a similar post as you just did, inviting everybody to come by and say hi to me. So I’ll be glad to see you coming by ; )

I’ve been without steady Internet for a while now – mostly checking via my phone and when I find free wifi, so I haven’t been commenting on anyone’s sites. :( But yeah, I need to get out and comment more…

I think it also has to do with time, or lack thereof….maybe I’m wrong, but it seems to me that those 237 who read and respond to a cute baby picture DO HAVE all the time in the world to do that. Perhaps they are stay at homers (no judgements here…I know they work at home) and while baby is napping, they go surfing and commenting. LOTS of people don’t have that time luxury…me included…which is why I decided to stop blogging for a bit. It takes a LOT of time to think about what you want to say, say it in an interesting way and then go read everyone else and comment intelligently on their blogs. That is time I simply don’t have right now and I suspect that may be the case for many others.

I make time to read you everyday and there are a few others that I try to read every day…but I simply can’t take the time to comment on all of them.

So, long-winded, I know, but if your reader meter is still ticking…don’t worry bout the comments…people are still there and will comment when they really can.

Oh sweetie! I was saving that post, really. I want to read it but the computer is in the kitchen where the kids usually are and I just don’t know how to explain the patriotic rocket to the kids… They boys would get it, of course, but it might inspire them to draw their own for the grandparents and I don’t think that would go over well.

    I haven’t left you…

Hai! I only recently came ( back) to your blog (via that of Lucretia who is a friend of mine)..and fell right into the penisstory hahaha! I thought that it was a very open and good and humorous written log…the only reason I didn’t comment on it (yet) is because I am a little uncertain about my English! To write I mean…reading is okay! Ánd I dont have any experience with circumsized guys…over here ( that’s Holland) it’s much more (if not all) turtlenecks hahahahaha!
But I can understand your frustrations about that lack of comments…so…here’s mine! :-) ))
    Byebye!

A blogger that gets 247 comments on their post probably isn’t reading the comments anyway. And I know you do!

As our blog feeds grow ever larger, and our time remains the same, some things fall off. Thanks for the reminder!

I’ve been miserable about commenting lately. I hope I commented on the penis blog, but I suspect I didn’t. I found it fascinating, and man do I have some stories I could tell about cut vs. uncut.

I’m all about uncut, even though Beaker is cut. Whoever did his circumcision was a fucking butcher. He’s got scar tissue and is 2-toned, I kid you not.

Aha…we call ‘comments’ ‘reakties’ in Dutch) from the verb ‘reageren’(= react)….but ‘comms’ is getting popular! :-) ))
And I think your Dutch is very good…your knowledge of flowers on the other hand…it weren’t tulips in the picture but snowdrops hahahaha!!
    Bye again!

i am always your loyal fan and you always leave me comments for which I am very thankful. ON that note, Comments are great but that is not a testament to how boring or witty someone is. Some people are very popular but their readers just prefer to remain just readers.

This is where Livejournal totally owns over the pretty, spiffy Blog. Your friends page is like a Google Reader, but you can quickly jump to their blog, post a comment and hit the back button and be right back to your spot on the list of friends updates. It’s just a pain in the butt on Google Reader, and if you make a list and GO to the page every day, even when there are no posts..people think you are a crazy stalker. haha. There has gotta be a better way! I enjoy your blog a lot and will try to be better about commenting. :)

The amount of comments seem to have dropped on my blog too, but that’s because my Google reader is about to explode. Lately I have not commented and read enough blogs either!

  13. February 20th, 2009 at 20:54 | #13

Yes, I’ve been a horrible commenter the last week or so. I’ve tried stepping it up in the last day or so too. So just so you know, it’s not just you. Well, maybe it is, since I don’t get that many comments even when I am commenting…

    Anyway.

Sometimes the number of comments does seem to vary, doesn’t it? I’ve been crazy busy with all of my road tripping and am way behind. Kind of feels good, though. ;)

Hon you can’t do everything. My reading has dropped off, as have my comments, but I suppose when you get a comment it puts that person in mind and you’re more likely to go and say hi. What you write is great, so don’t worry. Hugs.

My comments have taken a nosedive, too. I wish it didn’t bug me, but it does. A LOT.

I’ve been a terrible commenter, though. I’m sure that has something to do with it.
