From the city of three rivers to the city of three towers, and everywhere in between…

I suppose some people reading this might want to know from whence my blog title came and I can understand that, as I often wonder where the blog titles that aren’t immediately obvious come from. This title is one I played with for quite a while before using it as the header for a weblog; namely, when I wrote a poem or short story with a certain bent, I would often find myself toying with the whole “seeing the world through rose colored glasses” saying and how I could put my own unique filter on the concept.

I wrote a short story a few years ago, loosely based on one of my sorority sisters and the main theme of it was how the protagonist’s child-like spirit and eternal optimism persisted, despite a terminal illness, and how that same spirit should be passed on to our youngsters. Anyway, I kept coming back to how I depicted the main character and then my own reaction to her optimism, which was appreciative, but somewhat more jaded and wistful.

When I decided to quit blogging in the encapsulated world of Myspace and to develop an actual independant blog, I was stumped. Blogs are typically shuffled into categories: Mommy Blogs, Parenting Blogs, Photography Blogs, Recipe Blogs, and on and on but you don’t really see a “Single Woman Struggling to Make A Decent Living On Her Own” category. And that’s all this was when I first began Lilac Colored Glasses. It was just me, just a young woman living her day to day life and trying to do the best she could with it. I had recently emerged from a very trying, tumultuous, disastrous period and I was finally ready to get back to something I loved: writing.

I’ll never be able to see the world through rose colored glasses. There will always be some jaded wistfulness. There will always be a little bit of blue. My world will always be lilac.
