You all know about Proposition 8, right?
You know, that little proposition that revoked the California state legislature’s decision to allow homosexuals the right to marry. Because the ability to be legally wed to the one you love is a RIGHT, not a privilege, at least in industrialized, free thinking countries. Yeah well, I guess Americans can’t take too many steps in the right direction at the same time…that would make life too simple.
But anyway, I stumbled upon this profundity via the beautiful and uber sexy Heather (who I would totally blow off World of Warcraft for by the way).
So yeah, this is how I feel about Proposition 8:
And no, that’s not a wedding ring, cause I’m not married, but it’s the closest thing I have until CB decides to pop the question or until the house is finished and we can save up enough to by me one.
If you would like to join the Let Freedom Ring movement take a picture of your wedding ring on your middle finger, post it and link it here.
Oh, and while you’re at it, take a look at this post and send a big ol’ John Stewart style “fuck y’all” over to Arkansas as well because they took away the rights of homosexuals to adopt children.

Loved this … should post a picture but married without the ring. With you in spirit.
You’re a world of warcrafter?

URGH. We were JUBILANT the night of November 4–people in Berkeley took to the streets (raucous, but peaceful!), danced on cars, diverted traffic, sang on campus–but I was so nervous about Prop 8. And the following morning…*sigh*
It’s a particularly odd result when juxtaposed with the passage of Prop 2 for the “protection” of chickens (I disagree with many of the assertions they make about animal cruelty)–I don’t understand how people could convince 60% of Californians to vote for chickens’ rights…but not humans’. With this amendment, Prop 8 is writing discrimination into the Constitution. The Supreme Court overturned Prop 22 this year not because they were legislating from the bench, but because we as a people should have evolved. Oh, but wait. Conservatives don’t believe in evolution, either.

oh I’m so sorry but this post made me laugh. Not because of the topic as that pisses me off as well. I just had to smile at the idea of all people sticking up their middle finger.
11:40 pm
I do believe wedding ring or no the sentiment is the same!
12:14 am
Rock on!
Though watch it. I’ve been called a child on another blog for flipping the bird over this.

Yep, honestly, I was surprised. I still don’t understand why anyone cares who gets legally entangled with whom and for what reason. Marriage is a religious sacrament to those who consider it to be so, but that aspect is not a requirement even for straight folks, so why does it matter for gay couples, religious arguments aside? I’ll never understand. Ugh. Nice post, nice idea.

Great post.
Clearly this is the next frontier. It shouldn’t have to be, just like it shouldn’t have been a big deal for Obama to win the election.
But it was.
We have a long, long way to go.

YES.

I have a personal stake in prop 8, being that my son is part of the gay community and once again, we need to reiterate the importance of the seperation of church and state! love is love and should have NO boundaries to race, religion or sexual orientation. stand up for rights, yea, but for god sakes let everyone have a chance, legally, to live happily ever after…especially my son
9:36 am
Religious people should stop trying to force their rules upon society at large. If you’re against gay marriage, by all means, don’t marry someone of the same sex. But don’t tell me what your god thinks I cannot do.
I am an atheist. Do you see me push for legislation to close churches, mosques and synagogues?
Joined in the protest with a piece of tape for a ring. Fuck ‘em.
11:10 am
Great post Lilacs. It’s so bad that love can be judged as right or wrong. Gits.
1:53 pm
WOOHOO! You go girl. I love this…. and I’d totally blow of World of Witcraft for Heather too.

Hi there!
I just moved from the US (I’m originally from Belgium though) and I’m looking for American expats to hang out with occasionally in Antwerp, or go for trips etc, because I’d like to keep my English up to speed and stay in tune with American culture.
I’m 26 years old, a good person that loves to laugh and share stories with friends, and just looking for a English speaking friend. Feel free to mail me anytime ! Dennisios@gmail.com
Hope to hear you soon.

We were pretty disappointed at our fellow Californians, as we had attended rallies and everything. I hear Florida also passed a ban. People are so ignorant. Don’t the understand the basis of America is SEPARATION of church and state. I hadn’t heard of this site though and can’t wait to share it with my daughter.
7:52 pm
You look hawt when you’re pissed at hater-mongers.
11:29 pm
I’m in…just gotta get the picture…wish I knew how to do it with my webcam!
I do wish we could get past all this crap and just let people be people, period.

Rupe voted yes on Prop 8. Rupe believes marriage should be between one man and one woman. That’s all that that proposition is about in Rupe’s opinion. Others have made it much, much more … that’s their problem / prerogative / other.
Rupe doesn’t believe it’s about anything but the way God interpreted marriage in the Bible. Right there in Genesis. And no, Rupe isn’t heapin’ a helpin’ of the Bible on you or anyone.
Rupe has gay members of his family and would not fault them if they wanted to get married. That’s their choice.
Prop 8 wasn’t about denying rights. It was about the definition of marriage.
Everyone has their opinion. Just as you have yours. And Rupe respects that.

VirtualSprite thinks Rupe needs to stop talking in the third person and pull his head out of his bigoted behind.
When I heard this on the radio, I couldn’t believe it. All the good that was done… and then this snuck by. I think the Governor needs to go back to being Kindergarten Cop. He was far more effective as a role model there.
5:16 am
HEY RUPE, do you have trouble talking to people? what’s with the third person, weird!
…..anyway lilac, MAZEL TOV
10:19 pm
Rupe loves it. He really, really does …..
6:20 pm
I was talking to a friend of mine about this who is a liberal and also gay. (ha, he is my token gay friend and I am his token christian friend! we have known each other for twenty years!) Anyway…he is an awesome guy and feels so slighted by the system this way…and I agree. I think there should be an across the country law that will enable long term couples to have the same rights as all long term couples, what ever it is called. A couple who raise a child together, and invest in each other, should not have to worry about loosing everything in a courtroom battle. And that is all I have to say about that.
